|Abdominal detox massage (women only / female practitioner)
The Chi Nei Tsang technique of abdominal massage has its roots in China and Thailand. Specific massage and breathing techniques are used for massaging the abdomen, designed to detoxify and energise organs and glands, together with the connective tissues in the area. Stuck energies are thus unblocked and toxins released and eliminated to assist in recovery from pain and illness.
These techniques also stimulate emptying of the bowel, with no side effects, whereas taking some over-the-counter so called “natural laxatives” can result in cramping and pain with perhaps the need to take time off work to cope with the unpleasant side-effects.
In the West, up to the 1950’s, abdominal massage was commonly taught in nursing schools, and mothers were instructed how to massage their children. In his book written in 1903, Hygiene of the Nursery, Dr L Starr included long chapters about the regimen and feeding of infants and children, and the use of massage in constipation management.
Thus, abdominal massage, once the standard method of managing constipation, has now been largely replaced by laxatives.
