Abdominal detox massage (women only / female practitioner)

The Chi Nei Tsang technique of abdominal massage has its roots in China and Thailand. Specific massage and breathing techniques are used for massaging the abdomen, designed to detoxify and energise organs and glands, together with the connective tissues in the area. Stuck energies are thus unblocked and toxins released and eliminated to assist in recovery from pain and illness.

These techniques also stimulate emptying of the bowel, with no side effects, whereas taking some over-the-counter so called “natural laxatives” can result in cramping and pain with perhaps the need to take time off work to cope with the unpleasant side-effects.

In the West, up to the 1950’s, abdominal massage was commonly taught in nursing schools, and mothers were instructed how to massage their children. In his book written in 1903, Hygiene of the Nursery, Dr L Starr included long chapters about the regimen and feeding of infants and children, and the use of massage in constipation management.

Thus, abdominal massage, once the standard method of managing constipation, has now been largely replaced by laxatives.

Benefits of Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage include:

  • Detoxifying the colon and liver
  • Relieving chronic constipation
  • Relieving flatulence and cramps due to wind
  • Reducing bloating
  • Stimulating the digestive process
  • Improving menstrual symptoms
  • Helping with back pain by reducing stress on lower back, oblique muscles and pelvis
  • Relieving insomnia
  • Helping with weight loss

Contraindications are:

  • History of malignant bowel obstruction or abdominal growth
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
  • Spastic colon
  • Unstable spinal injury
  • Pregnancy
  • Gallstones
  • Kidney stones
  • Calcium deposits in bladder
  • Women with inflammation in reproductive organs
  • Hernias
  • Stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Any type of internal bleeding

For optimal outcomes, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage is combined with colonic hydrotherapy. The abdominal massage session is £50.00 as a stand alone.
